Hi, Shany–check out the article that includes this graphic image for thoughts on where Fraser’s Ridge could be if it was an actual place. We can dream, can’t we?!

Hi, I was wondering if by any chance that the TV series could have been based in part on PVT William Gudger Sr. ? He was born in Scotland in March1st 1752. Died July 12th 1833/ and moved to America with his family to Virginia. He then married Pasty Young and they moved what is now Ashville N.C. along the Swannanoa River. By 1790 he bought up land to the amount of 223,640,100 acres. He fought against the Cherokee Indians who attacked his future Father in Law’s home Joesph Young ( Pasty Young Gudger’s Father) . I just noticed how much of PVT William Gudger’s life follows the story lines in Outlander. Any info?

Hi, Jim–Diana Gabaldon’s first book was a test for herself–you’ll find the author’s explanation of her inspiration for the book series here: https://dianagabaldon.com/wordpress/books/outlander-series/

She has done a great deal of research on the Scots’ immigration to the US and decided the Frasers would settle in NC because of the many Scots settling here.
